Why to avoid eddies

Eddies need to be avoided by the gliders because it is inefficient to fight against their currents, and because it is unwise risking damage to the glider by entering one. Because gliders move relatively slowly in comparison to modern technologies, it is best to keep them on a course to complete their missions as fast as possible. If one were to get caught up in the currents of an eddy and have to fight against the whirling waters, much time would be lost. Also, there is the very real possibility of seriously damaging the glider by entering an eddy.
